Question:
What If I have to change insurance after my surgery?

What I am wondering is: because of financial reasons, I really need to start working after my surgery, and most likely will not qualify for Medicaid at that point. If I am put on a group plan and need skin removal, can this be classified as reconstructive surgery, or wll it be a "pre-existing condition?"    — Kelly M. (posted on May 28, 2001)

Seems no one had an answer for you on this one and I just saw the question. If you are on Medicaid now, and continue it until you get on another insurance, there is NO penalty or waiting period for the other insurance to cover you for preexisting things. In other words, there IS no preexisting conditions if you have had continuous insurance. The new insurance just has to pick up from where medicaid left off. Only thing that you will need is a letter from Medicaid to the new insurance stating the date that you started medicaid and the day it ended. As long as there is no more than a 60 day span inbetween, you will be covered for everything just like you always have been. Good luck to you.
