Question:
Is this true that the larger you are, the faster you lose?

Hey guys, I've heard quite a few times, that " the bigger you are, the faster you lose the weight " does anyone know if there's any truth in this statement? Just wondering! Thanks in advance for any responces!! I really appreciate it.    — Jennifer M. (posted on November 20, 2001)

Let's just say you have the potential to lose more and more quickly, but other factors also play a part. The biggest being your metabolism, also how much you're willing to exercise and if you're going to stick to the diet with the focus on protein and water intake.

I have been told the same thing. I guess the heavier you are the more water weight you have so I guess that is the first to go.....However I needed to lose 120 lbs before surgery, my surgeon told me it would take 6-7 months to lose 60-70 lbs FYI.....I have already lost 65# and its only 3 months so I guess it really depends on your metabolism and how much you exercise......Good Luck!

The downside to the extra heavy is that they are less likely to get to their overall goal. Although their life and health will be much improved.

Yes, I believe that's true. But, it's also true that the heavier you are the less likely you are to lose enough to be thought of as "thin" and more likely you are to require some reconstructive surgery. The "wls stars" in my group, the women who wearing size 8 jeans, are the ones who started out on the "small" side.

I can say from my experience that it is true! I weighed 370 pounds just 117 days ago. Today I weigh 273.5. I dont do anything better or more than anyone else, its just that I have more to lose. I suspect now I will start to lose at a lower rate now that I have less to lose. Remember, though, that a big person may lose 100 in 4 months, but they still have another 100 to go. A smaller person may take a year to lose 100 pounds, but they will probably be done and closer to their goal weight!
