Question:
Can I use either soy or whey protein?

What difference is there between soy protein and whey protein. Can I use either one?    — Happy B. (posted on January 1, 2002)

Soy protein is OK, useable. It can be too high in sugar if pre-flavored, or if you add too much junk to it, like milk or juice. It tends to be gritty, but some people don't mind that. It can cause bowel changes, either way. It's about #9 on the bioavailability chart. Whey proteins are #1 in availability, smoother, mix up more easily in water, lower volume, and can cause bowel chanes. They tend to be tastier alone and easier to use. I'm trying to objective here, but there's no question that I think whey is better. When I had my surgery in 94, soy was the only choice. It was a major effort to get my protein in, as I had to steel myself for each dose. But then the first CHOCOLATE (whey) came out in 95 and my life changed forever!

I have been drinking the ProScore 100 (Chocolate), whey protein, ordered from Vitalady (Michelle Curran) and it is yummy!!! It is mixed with water and I thought it would be thin/weak, but it's not--it's very thick and creamy. I also add a banana and ice and it's a real taste treat for me.
