Question:
4 mo p.o. past week lots of vomitting, why now? And more eat ????

I am 4 months post op and have been doing fine. I show to have lost 80 lbs, am hovering right at 200 can't wait to get under, have wondered how I'm doing, but guess everyone loses differently. I am pleased with the loss and generally have felt good, however last week upon my first bite of food for the day I started vomitting and then did so 6 more times on the way to work and at work. Called my great doc and he made me come in. By that time I felt great and we discussed it, he said since I hadn't been having that problem, he didn't think it was a stricture (but to watch out for that)and he thought I had plugged the soma and in that case I would throw up until it unplugged. This was the first time that happened to me. However, the next day I ate breakfast all right and then at lunch just one bite and I couldn't eat again, and again I threw up 3-4 times before finally that bite of lunch came up. Since then it seems like at least everyother day I have an episode. I do know that I have had to work to slow down eating, I don't get lunch/dinner breaks and had the habit of woolfing down my food, but I've tried to watch that. What signs did any of you have when you had a stricture? Yesterday I ate pretty well, still have problems getting all the water down, but had a good breakfast and lunch, but after lunch felt full a long time, supper didn't sit well, then this morning the first thing I threw up my dinner from last night! Trying to drink protein now, but it's not going down very well. Any help will be appreciated. Also, doc told me it is better to be healthy than skinny so he would like me to up my calories to 1200 per day and to start drinking protein shakes (I started a little earlier, but should have started sooner). Where do I put 1200 calories? Won't that slow down the weight loss? I do want to be healthy, but where do you put it, I can't even get all the water down although I try. Help, please!    — Melody M. when I had a stricture not even water would stay down, it started with no food staying down, and then I could not even get my water in. I go through days with no throwing up then I will have several days where everything but liguids come back up, I am just over three months post-op, hang in there it comes and goes, but if your liguids won't stay down contact your doc. immediately. good luck and congrats on your weight loss. tonjia

I am 18 months post op and still throw up every now and then. Reason: did not chew food well enough, ate too much, ate greasy food, ate a binding food such as pasta or bread then drank too soon afterwards. Just make sure you are chewing everything well. My nutritionist gave me a great piece of advice, lay your fork or whatever you are eating (like a sandwhich, cracker etc.) down between bites and it helps the food digest better. This has worked for me when I heed to it. Hope this helps and Congrats on your weight loss. Hugs, Toni K. 12/12/00 down 142 pounds!

I am 4 months out and I too am having problems. I also am in OK and Dr. Warnock was my surgeon too. So how do you unplug the stoma? Did the doctor tell you what to do?
