Question:
Skin starting to sag-will working out at

I am almost 6 months post op-I've been bad and haven't excersized-but tomorrow I go for a consultation at our neighborhood "Curves" just wondering if anyone who started working out after they were 5-6 months post op and started at around 250, got rid of their extra skin without surgery-but with excersize and if Curves really does a good job at working all the "right" places.    — Tris H. I have been going to Curves since Nov.2001. I am pre-op, but I know in my case I have seen more inch loss than pound loss. I am going regularly to "tighten up" some before my surgery Aug. 1st. It is really upbeat music, hydrolic machines(so no weights), and a good time. I know I feel better when I go and I am currently 5'6 and 400lbs.

Exercise won't make skin shrink--age, skin tone, and the structure of your skin dictate whether it retracts or not. Exercise will improve the underlying muscle tone and definition. I have exercised since before I got my referral and my open RNY was 10 months ago. In the spring I will be seeing the plastic surgeon I consulted with last month to take care of the hanging skin. He says that by now it has gone back as far as it is likely to go. --I am 53.

Hi Tris, well I started out a lot heavier then you, at 5'6 and 341 lbs. I hate exercise, but have attempted to walk, and do some other things, and my skin was pretty bad. Well after losing 165 lbs I decided that maybe I should exercise, LOL, and I joined a Curves about 7 weeks ago. I am AMAZED at the results in such a short amount of time. Now , I haven't dropped any lbs according to the scale, but at my 1 month weigh and measure there, I had lost 9 inches. My skin looks much much better, and I can say that I think I will avoid the plastic surgeries except for a TT, that I had planned, (arms, things, boobs, etc, etc... ) And besides all the benefits, I actually like Curves, it is fun! I look forward to going, and haven't hated a single session yet. I'd say check it out! Good luck to you!
