Question:
A plateau already?

I am 4 weeks post op and I haven't lost anything for the last 10 days! What is that? I've started using Equal in my drinks, oatmeal, etc. Could Equal hinder loss?    — braesgran (posted on July 10, 2002)

Ginger, I had a plateau at 3 weeks. I'm 4 weeks post op now. It took about 5 days, and I was ready to go out of my mind, because the scale would not budge. One thing you may want to do is really start walking more. I walk 3 miles a day, one in the am two in the pm. I stopped weighing myself, and the following Monday, I lost 2.5 pounds, two days later, another 2.5 lbs. Also, make sure you're eating mostly protein. I don't think Nutrasweet is going to stop you from losing, especially at this point in your recovery. Good luck, You will get through this:)

Girl! I feel your pain! I had a plateau at 3 weeks out that lasted 3 weeks! Its very frustrating! But, keep in mind that you body is playing 'catch up' and wants to hang onto everything it can. It will end! I plateau ALL the time yet I have now lost 105lbs in 8.5 months! It works! Don't worry!

Georgia, Just about everyone hits their first plateau at around 3 weeks. Its the body's way of catching up with the rapid weight loss. Just stay on course, lots of protein, water, and exercise, and before you know it, it will move again. My first one lasted 2 1/2 weeks-there will be others to follow...

My first plateau was from weeks 3-7. I upped my protein, drank more water and extended my morning walks by 15 minutes and finally it went away. By the way, have you tried Splenda? I like it better than Equal.

I also hit a plateau for 4 to 6 1/2 weeks. Like everyone said, keep up the water, protein and exercise. It hink trying fruit (watermelon & cantelope) and gettin g my period may have contributed to my plateau. But it does seem pretty common to hit plateaus at about 4 weeks anyway. I also second using Splenda. It tastes so much better!
