Question:
I know that we're supposed to take childrens chewable vitamins at 3 months,

However, I'm soon to be 6 months post op and am wondering if I'm supposed to be switching to an adult once a day vitamin???    — Erin W. (posted on November 11, 2002)

Erin, My surgeon has me on a Prenatal vitamin and has since I was 6 weeks post op. He feels that the chewables do not provide enough vitamins. I haven't had any problems with them and my labs look terrific. (I am 3 months post op and have lost 84 pounds). Check with your doctor. I am sure that you are ready for something a little more potent. Good luck to you!! Hugs, Kathie (in Hawaii)...........

Hi! I stopped taking chewable vitamins at 1 month post op and switched to a regular one a day vitamin on my surgeon's orders. What does your surgeon say?? Good luck!

Our surgeon prescribes chewable vitamins for only the first three weeks post-op. After that, his patients can change to any multivitamin with iron of their choice. I have been taking Centrum since that time with no problems....my daughters take One-A-Day vitamins because they like the smaller size...and my husband takes some huge generic vitamin from GNC. We all had RNY surgery and none of us have experienced any difficulties. Best wishes!

My surgeon had me switch to adult multi-vitamins at 10 weeks. I take one pre-natal vitamin, twice a day. I get them over the counter at Wal Mart. Ask you surgeon or someone on his team when you should switch to adult vitamins. Open RNY 11/29/01 -158 pounds

hiya! i take the centrum chewables (adult) that are orange flavored. i like them much better than the childrens. i looked at the prenatal but the centrum had higher amounts of vitamins. also i don't like swallowing those HUGE pills. if you don't mind swallowing the pills, just make sure that 1. they don't contain iron in the form of ferrous sulfate - it is way to hard on our digestive system and 2. they dissolve in water within 20 minutes - otherwise they won't be absorbed into your system and are a waste. good luck! kate open rny 6-14-01 pre op: 268lbs goal: 135lbs current: 126lbs

I was told that I could remain on the childrens chewables (2 a day) if I wanted to. I actually like the taste of them and take enough other pills that the chewables are a break. 6 month blood test was fine-still waiting for the 9 mo results.
