Gary, You don't say whether you are Type 1 or Type 2. If Type 1, you will always need to take insulin. If you have Type 2 diabetes, you will probably be able to decrease your meds (including insulin) fairly soon. However, you may see your sugars go back up a bit if you have just finished with clear liquids and are starting to take in some things with more carbs, which are the foods that are typical at about your stage. Just be sure to keep checking your blood sugars and keeping them under control. Letting them get too high can interfere with your healing process and you do not want that.

I am 5 months post-op, down over 100 lbs., and still on some medication for my diabetes (type 2). It may be something that I always have to deal with, but I know that my blood sugar is under much better control than it was before my surgery. I think I will eventually reach the point where it can be controlled with diet and exercise. I'm only on two prescription drugs now, compared to the 5-6 I was on before surgery!

What is your daily intake like? Lots of diets are too high in carbs, milk, juice--the things that can make your BS rise.
