Question:
Does anyone crave diet caffeine coke or other diet pops?

I am 10 weeks post-op and I have been craving diet caffeine pop alot. I drink quite a bit now ever since a couple of weeks ago, but I always make sure it is not fizzy. Is this a good thing to drink or not? I try other things to drink, but I get sick of the same things, and I get hooked on something for a while until I get sick of that too. Thanks.    — Melodee S. I too crave diet caffeine free pop. I was very concerned with this issue before surgery so I asked my doctor. He said that as long as I let the pop sit open for an hour to decrease the carbonation that it is alright to drink. Many people have different opinions about this though. I think there's also some good info in the library. Good Luck on your journey! Liz

Melodee, I was a big soda drinker before surgery, and ofcourse I crave it now, but that is the one craving I can actually fight. I was told by my surgeon that carbonation does stretch the pouch, and this is a long debate over whether it does or not. DO I think so? no clue, I'd rather believe it as an incentive not to drink it. Plus the carbonation makes me burp so much and my stomach rumbles. I think it's good that you wait till its not as fizzy, also I hear soda fountain drinks aren't as bubbly as in the can. I would use it as a treat, even though its diet, drinking diet sodas can decrease the absorption of calcium. But I'm the same way as you- get hooked on something, then get bored of it after a few weeks. Goodluck to you :-)
