Question:
Surgery Date Scheduled 4-22-03, PCP says I may have Lupus..information needed.

I went for my final pre-op testing today. My PCP was ready to give me final clearance for my surgery ( scheduled in 3 days on Tues. 4-22) When she noticed something on my labs. She thinks I may have LUPUS!!!!! She sent me right over to the hospital to have 7 tubes of blood drawn. Then she set me up with an appt. with a hematologist on Mon. The lab said this blood work will take at least a week to come back! I have cried my eyes out today. My PCP really is a wonderful DR. & she wants me to have surgery, so I am still praying that I will be able to have my surgery as scheduled. If, you know anything about lupus that you can share with me, I would really appreciate it. Please pray that I will be able to have my surgery as scheduled & that I will not have any problems with clots &/or with my blood. AS these are 2 of the problems with Lupus.    — [Deactivated Member] (posted on April 19, 2003)

Karen, don't worry and try to stay calm. I too had a high ANA Test - not high but astronomically high and it turned out to NOT be Lupus as they thought. You have to have other symptoms aside from the high ANA count to have it. Do you have skin rashes, extreme fatigue? Those are symptoms. With me, it turned out to be nothing. We still have no explanation for the high ANA count though. Keep your chin up and investigate ALL the Lupus symptoms and prayerfully, you won't have it!!! Best wishes!!!!!

Karen~~I had a positive ANA several years ago but I had no symptoms. I was told I had Lupus or some sort of other autoimmune disease. IT WAS NOTHING!!!!!!!! I had the same 7 tubes of blood drawn and I didnt have any of the other markers for any of these diseases. I saw a rheumatoligist and a hemotologist and both thought the positive ANA result was do to allergies. If you arent symptomatic then I doubt it is anything. Good luck to you. I've been thru the same thing Karen, and I'm glad to see that others have also. At least your doctor had you take more tests....my FORMER doc told me after on CBC blood test that I have "a slight case of lupus". Slight? I've never had any symptoms and found a doctor that (hehehe) tested me a total of 3 times just to put me at ease. I'll still say a prayer that they'll find nothing. ~Robin~
