Question:
I am almost 4 weeks post op and have lost only 9 pounds.

This is very discouraging. I eat protein, drink water and increased activity. What can I do to get my body reacting?    — Amy P. (posted on July 9, 2003)

What kind of wls did you have? How much water, protein, calories and exercise are you getting? Maybe because you're a lightweight, you will lose more slowly than others, but 9 pounds does sound like not very much at this point. Maybe if you tell us more we can help...

Hang in there......I'm 3 weeks post-op and have only lost 10 pounds. The doctor said that because I started out as a light weight, that I will probably lose slower than others. It is very discouraging but just think, I don't think I have ever lost 10 pounds in 3 weeks.......We didn't put it on overnight, so I guess it won't come off overnight......Good luck!!!!

I am 3.5 months out and a lightweight. I am down 40lbs. I lose very very slow. The first few weeks I became discouraged, because I was not losing steadily. Much to my surprise during the 5th week I lost alot of weight. Then I plateaued for 3 weeks, then I lost 9lbs in 3 days. My weight comes off in "clumps". I lost ALOT of inches even when the weight was not budging. I am down 3 sizes. Hang in there, if you are doing everything correctly, getting g enough protein, and your thyroid and blood work are ok - it will come off.

I was also a slow starter and still made goal by 10 1/2 months. You just have to keep at it! That said, you may want to make sure that you are eating ENOUGH. If you don't get enough calories, your body will go into starvation mode and hang onto every pound it can. Try to keep your caloric intake above 800 or so and that should keep your metabolism going. One tool to track protein and calories is www.fitday.com. It is free and customizable. Also, be sure to keep track of your measurements as sometimes you lose inches but not pounds. Best of luck to you. I know it is hard, but you'll have to be patient with your body!

Hi Amy...I started out at 230 lbs 5'3...3 weeks post op I had a plateau that lasted 3 weeks...and then I lost 5 lbs in a few days...I lose in chunks but you should measure yourself because you lose inches..even when your not losing pounds.I am a slow loser also i am 5 months post op and have lost 61 lbs...but as long as it keeps coming off...be proud of yourself!!!!!!

Hi, I started at 228 and am 5'1". My loss was VERY slow in the beginning. I would lose a few pounds then go on a two or three week plateau. I, like the others lose in chunks. I am now a little over five months and have lost 60 pounds. The latter part of month three and four, I really saw a faster lose. It kind of makes up for the slow start. If you are doing all the right things, which you indicate you are, yours will take off also.
