Question:
I'm having weakness in my legs...

It gets worse after I take my daily walk(s). Is this a nutritional deficiency? It is an exhausting feeling. I have lost 30 pounds already, yet I feel like I had 1/2 the leg strength as before the surgery. I'm afraid they are going to give out on me.    — mrsmyranow (posted on July 22, 2003)

Hi... are you drinking anything while you are walking? Do you walk after you eat? Could it be dumping?? Are you taking your vities?? Maybe you are walking too far, too soon... if you are drinking water while walking, not walking too fast or too far, and getting your vities in... get in touch with your pcp over this, okay?? You may be low in iron... hugs

Get your labs checked. Could be low on lots of things that could have the same symptom. Good Luck!

I've been having the same problem and I'm almost 9 weeks out. My legs feel like lead! My surgeon told me to continue walking as much as I could to build leg strength back up again and that the weakness was just due to my body taking all of its reserves of energy and putting them into healing. Make sure you're getting enough to eat (esp. protein), getting enough fluids, taking your vitamins and getting enough rest at night. The weakness will pass as you heal and build strength. Whatever you do, don't stop your walking - it's important to your healing. And as always, if you're really concerned, call your doc and make sure you don't have a nutritional imbalance. Good luck to you!

Please get your potassium levels checked. This happended to me also and my levels were dangerously low. I am on liquid potassium and have been for just over a year now (i'm 18 months post op). My DR. checks my levels every three months. Good luck.
