Question:
Help I've got hives!

I am six days post-op and other than a really annoying cases of the hives I am doing quite well. I am on NO medication of any kind.I woke up this morning with hives over a good portion of my body. Called my Dr. and was told to take liquid Benedril which I did. Still they are getting worse. I guess I need a little hand holding here. Please share similar experiences if this applies to you. How long did they last and what you did to get over them. Thanks for taking the time to respond.+    — Char G. (posted on July 30, 2003)

I developed hives also from the steri strips, and the tape they used to hold the bandages over my incesion, and they drove me nuts itching them. I went ahead and took the steri strips off, and put a couple of regular bandades across my incesion to help keep it closed. Good luck I hope they go away soon! :0)

Sometimes people go through this due to the Anesthesia. Hang in there, they will go away. To help sooth them you can make an old fashioned oatmeal paste and apply it to your skin, wait till it dries then wash it off in the shower. Another thing that helps is Caladryl Lotion. I had the problem after my thyroid was removed last year. They lasted about week.

I almost always get extremely bad hives from general anesthesia. I take something sharp and scrap my skin raw when this happens. The ONLY thing that helps me is Predizone.
