Question:
Please advise! Threw up today and there was blood.

I am seeking some advice please. I ate lunch today, and I must have eaten too fast, because about 10 mins after I ate, I felt like I had to throw up. I don't know if something was stuck or what. But, I went to throw up, and there was blood along with the food I had eaten. I am almost 4 months post op, and have not had problems with throwing up, only if something gets stuck. I have phoned my doctor, and I am waiting for his call back. I am looking for some reassurance until they call. Does anyone know what this might be?    — EHarding (posted on August 5, 2003)

Gee could be anything from a little tear in the esophagus to an ulceration of the pouch. You did the right thing by calling your doctor. If your not in pain, I wouldn't freak about it though until you hear back. Hang tough!

Sounds like a stricture with some broken blood vessels from the vomiting - that is definetely something your surgeon needs to know - and ASAP. Until he can do endoscopy, make certain to liquify EVERYTHING that goes into your mouth. You will also want to know if there are any traces of blood in your feces/urine - in other words, blood throughout the digestive system will spill over into the excretory system - find out, if for nothing elese, to ally your fears - and now.
