The nutritionist at the Hospital of the University of Pa. says that you can use Ensure Light or Glucerna (during the first couple of weeks), but the regular Ensure has way too much sugar...JR

My doctor has us drinking Ensure in the hospital and the first week or so after discharge. He says we are getting so little nutrition at that point that the sugar won't matter. He has his patients drinking 2oz and some people mix that with water. I think that every doctor and nutritionist has a different bent on this whole thing. Guess we have to make the choices that work best for us.

Our doc allows it - I personally prefer Boost High Protein vanilla by far.

I believe Ensure is loaded with sugar and one of the things it does is to help fatten up elderly people. At least that is my understanding. Does'nt make me right. ;) Why would you want to drink sugary milk? Regular milk has sugar but that is a much wiser thing to drink than Ensure or the other drinks like it. It is a waste of money and the precious little window of time we have to lose weight.

WAY too high in sugar ... I was told to keep sugars below 4 gr.

I'd read enough to know that sugar was a no-no, so bought the "diabetic" version of Ensure called Glusena. It's great and no dumping!

My VERY underweight sister-in-law drinks 2 ensure drinks a day to help her to gain weight. I don't think I would choose it for weight loss. Just my 2cents.

My surgeon does not allow this and I guess it depends on how fast you want to lose weight. I have a friend that drinks two Ensure a day because she loves it and needs the vitamins and hasn't lost anything in 5 months and she's only now a year post op. She was a heavyweight with a BMI of 54 (mine was 60) and a loss of 100lbs since her surgery which is great! I have, however, lost almost as much as her in the past 3 months (80 lbs) by sticking to less than 20g of carbohydrates a day, at least 70 g of protein and NO SNACKING! Good luck to you!
