Question:
Someone please ease my mind

I was just approved for my TT (after one denial) and will also be having breast implants done at the same time. I was excited to be approved, but then the fear set in! All of the what if's keep popping into my head. I really want to have the procedures done, but for some reason I am more scared to have this done than I was having the Lap RNY done. I've heard that the recovery is longer and more painful than it was from my Lap RNY -- that the surgery is more extensive. Can anyone who has been through this offer me some advice and support? I could really use all of the help I can get :) Thank you so much! God Bless You All!!! ^j^ --Andrea    — Andrea H. (posted on September 18, 2003)

I had open RNY and then had a panniculectomy in February of this year. The pain from the panni was worse (at least lasted longer) than with the RNY but I didn't experience much pain at all with the RNY. I was in the hospital from Tuesday (day of surgery) til Friday afternoon. I took pain meds orally for several days after being released but I was able to return to work in two weeks just like with the RNY. Also, I had multiple hernias repaired and that was part of the pain - the mesh they use is attached to muscles and it is still painful at times (not bad, but I know it's there). But, if I had it to do over again, I would - just like with the RNY. I just had a total knee replacement (July 30) and compared to that the RNY and Tummy Tuck were a piece of cake.

I had an abdominoplasty and liposuction of the upper arms. I can tell you that the recovery from these 2 surgeries was a piece of cake in comparison to having the RNY!! I hurt MUCH more after the RNY and that's because they cut through muscle. That really doesn't happen with plastic surgery. There is pain but it certainly is more bearable, especially with the pain killers they give you. Also, remember your in MUCH better shape then you were when you had your RNY and that makes a HUGE difference.
