Question:
What's the longest plateau

I'm 2 1/2 weeks plateau, and it's destroying me. I heard they average 2 weeks. What's the longest anybody has had one. I'm 8.5 weeks out and lost only 28 pounds    — Sandy A. (posted on October 15, 2003)

Don't worry. It should end soon. I had a similar one about the same time. I am now out 5 months and down 75 lbs since surgery. I now have about a week every month that I don't lose. Then I'll lose 5 lbs the next week. Hang in there. Get more exercise and try to watch your carbs. yg

You need to whisper that word, plateau, The longest one I had was for a month 1/2. I tell ya, it was just depressing. I tryed everything I could to break it. but nothing helped. I must say I did loss 30lbs the month before the plateau. My plateau lasted for a month and 1/2. The wt was pouring off me. so I guess my body was playing catch up. But it still was a mental thing. it really worried me. But now Im losing again so Im happy. I have loss 142 lbs in 9 months. so all's good.

I was on one for 5 weeks and Im currently 14 weeks post op and down 41 pounds so I know how ya feel. But my advice and no its not stay off the scale because I cant do that myself, my advice is just get use to it. It happens all the time I only lose one week out of the month now and Ironically enough its the week of my period. Good luck. Read my profile

Why not see a nutritionist and figure out what is going on? I have never really hit a plateau and I think that it is because I readjust my diet regularly to accomodate new weights and seeing her weekly helps me to do that. I don't think I am lucky, I think that I am just very aware of what I am doing and what effect every food has on my body. Are you over exercising? Early on it seems that it can put you on a plateau as you are not eating enough to exercise. Are you drinking enough fluids? Not drinking enough is one of the only things, besides carbs, that can interupt my weight loss. I will say that as I have less and less to lose it is much harder (I only lost 3.5 pounds this month) but I think that we can all get to where we want to be if we are compliant and work our tool.

I just wanted to add that a true plateau is when you are doing everything right and nothing is coming off. If that is what is happening for you then just try to ride it out and know that it does happen and don't let it frustrate you to the point where you start screwing around with the wrong foods. Please see a nutritionist, I really do credit mine with much of my success. She has been an unbelievable support and studies show that those who see a professional post op lose more steadily and more quickly. Good Luck.

My longest plateau was 8 weeks. But I eventually got over it and continued losing.

I am currently at 5 weeks and counting. I have had them regularly, but this one is lasting longer than the others. In the past my platueas lasted 3 weeks then I would lose everything for that month in 1 week lose - like clock work. I am sticking to my diet and have not lost 1 lb in 5 weeks... and counting. 4/2/03
