Question:
My body got neglected last week, whats the quickest way to get back to

My father died last week. I ended up flying from PA to CA with my two young kids. Unfortunatley I had no help or transportation and was stuck in a house will little food and bad water. It was such a weather change I knew we were getting dehydrated. The most fluids we got were from diet (caffinated!!) pop!! I saved the food for my kids. I know my body is out of whack. I was still getting vitamins but that was it. Now at home i am guzzling fluids as much as possible and trying to bulk up on protiens. My lips are terrible and cracked, my friend honestly said I look sick/pale, and I feel tired. What is the quickest way to get healthy? I really did try to take care of myself, but it was a bad situation. What are some good (food/supplement) pick me uppers?    — candylnd24 (posted on October 27, 2003)

I would like to say first how sorry I am to hear of the loss of your father and how terrible that you had to endure such circumstances during a terribly difficult time. Although, I would now have to say that if you are pale and that dehydrated that you need to call your surgeon and most likely be rehydrated intravenously. They will be able to give you fluids as well as nutrient supplements. Unfortunately, when one is that dehydrated it may be very difficult or impossible to play catch up on your own without a little help from your doc. Please take the time to take care of yourself. I wish you all the luck and hope that you are feeling better soon. Denise Open RNY 3/20/03 - 125lbs

I, too, offer my condolences on your loss. When you get dehydrated, you need to replace electolytes as well as fluid. Gatorade will do that (you might want to cut it with water), or get some children's Pedialyte--it's lighter but tastes kind of funky to me.

I would concentrate on protein shakes to ease back into food slowly. Take some B12 sublingual if you have it. Gatorade is a great idea. If you still feel poorly after a few more days, contact your doc.

I found myself dehydrated last month. My Surgeon had me drink Propel and or diluted Gatorade. I'd also tell your Surgeon how you're feeling to see if he feels you're in need of something additional.

Hey, I'm sorry about your loss. Please go to the doctor's. They'll most likely give you an IV. I was dehydrated earlier this month, went to the doc's and took 2 bags of fluid but felt wonderful afterward. Please, please, please go. You'll feel better almost immediately.
