Question:
Can anyone share a sucsess story about pseudo pstosis breasts being restored.

I am trying to have my insurance cover the collapse of my breast since lossing all of the weight from Gastric Bypass. I know there must be others out there who might have similar stories and I would greatly appreicate any advice on this matter and the support of just knowing your story would help me greatly. I started out at a 48B and am left with only wrinkling skin that barely fills an A. Thank you in advance!    — Diane N. (posted on May 12, 2004)

I am barely left with anything as well. WIll the insurance consider this to be a medical or cosmetic issue? I am seeing a plastic surgeon on the 31st of May.

Breast lift or augmentation are both considered cosmetic. A breast reduction is usually covered if you meet certain standards--such as amount of tissue removed ( they look at weight of the tissue removed) and symptoms. You need to document back, neck or shoulder pain, skin irritation or rashes and depressions in the skin under bra straps. Good luck.

I had a lift with augmentation; the lift was covered and I paid for the implants ($800.) UHC had a formula for the level of ptosis they would cover and I more than qualified. I also had rashes under my breasts which added to the medical necessity. However, the contact person at UHC said that I qualified without the rash as that level of ptosis was considered a deformity. All policies are different; you have to check to be sure! Some consider lifts to always be cosmetic and some, like in my case, have a category they consider reconstructive. Good luck! hugs, Ann....RNY 9/10/99....260/124
