Question:
is anyone who is a recent Post op experiencing weight gain?

I am 2 months post op (LAP RNY)and i have lost a total of 77 lbs. I'm trying to follow the program supplied by my doctor, but i've gained 2 lbs already. Is that normal or am i doing something wrong. I don't overeat...i barely eat anything at all. Can someone help?    — Marissa N. (posted on May 22, 2004)

77 lbs in 2 months is fantastic. At this point I wouldn't worry about the 2 lbs, weight normally can fluctuate a couple of pounds, that's probably all the 2 lbs is a natural fluctuation, with a dramatic loss like you've had, your body might need some time to readjust and catch up. Just hang in there, keep following your post op guidelines, (getting in your protein and water) and the pounds will start falling off again soon!

I gained 5 pounds at about 1-2 months out. I lost those pounds in a week or so then lost more so I wouldn't worry about it if you are following the proper meal plan. Some times our bodies just grab extra while we are losing so the scale can move up a pound or two then lose more. I finally stopped worrying about it and I really don't chart the increases anymore on my profile but they do happen. I am breaking a plateau that I have been on for about a month and I over 7 months out now. I have lost a total of 90 pounds out of the 120 pounds I have to lose to be at my ideal weight for my height. You may want to make sure you are getting in all of your water, your supplements, and your protein. I wouldn't worry about your gain if you are doing all of that. God bless you and good luck.

Marisa...congrats on your excellent weight loss. I had lost only about 35 pounds at 2 months out. I lost 28 pounds the first month and then slowed down considerably. I hit several plateaus and thought something was wrong with me because I didn't lose as fast as my friends did. But, by reading the boards here, I found out I'm pretty much in the average normal range and my friends were the ones who were in the other category. I hope your rapid loss continues. I'm 20 weeks post op and have lost 72 pounds. Good luck.

Great job on the weight loss. At 5 months out I am down 91. I constantly fluctuate sometimes going up as much as 5 pounds. It will all balance out in the end. A lot of factors play in the fluctuation just like before. Water weight, salt intake, bowel movements, diet etc. Don't stress over it.

A number of reasons could cause this: medicine, muscle gain if your exercising, menstral time, ate something salty or just need a good poop. I gain 2 pounds easy back and forth thru the day and night. I have even gained up to 4lbs around the menstral time... don't worry about the 2lbs. now if you gain 5lbs+ and it stays several days then I would start consulting someone this early out. Great job and hide the scale if it really bothers you *lol* your doing AWESOME!!!

Holy moly! 77 lbs in 2 months is PHENOMENAL weight loss. Wow! I'm going to jump on the bandwagon with the other psoter and tell you- get rid of the scale! Follow your program, exercise and weigh ONE time a month. You'll do much better stress wise with this approach. Keep up the good work!

Burn the scale-- seriously, it will make you crazy if you weigh yourself too often. Sounds like you are doing everything right. I second what everyone here has already said: concentrate on eating the right things in the right amounts, drinking A LOT of water and getting some exercise. I know you're a new post-op but you're doing great and you should be soooo proud of losing 77 pounds in 2 months-- that is awesome!
