Question:
Im 9 months postop and Ive lost 120 lbs from my high of 315 lbs...is this it?

I'd like to hear from others who were around my size when they started and find out how much they were down at the time they were 9 months postop. Ive been on a plateau for a long time now and I cant help but wonder whether I'll remain at the 195-200 lb level permanently. I had the proximal RNY. What has everyone been averaging for weight loss around the 9 month marker? I know it doesnt help my situation to know how others are doing but Im just curious.    — [Anonymous] (posted on July 7, 2000)

Yep, yep, yep.......open proximal rny 7-29-99, starting weight 300, currently 190. Been here for quite some time, too. It's just as my doctor said it would be, though. He told me I'd be responsible for the last 30-50 pounds. I must admit, that I don't exercise like I should. Ah, now that I admitted that in public, I'm inspired! LOL!

Hi. I started out at 298 and am now at 190. I had the surgery twice last summer (6-18-99 & 8-14-99). Surgeon messed up on the first one. So my date for the start of the weight loss is 8-14-99. It has been a little over 10 months now and I have lost 108 pounds. I, too, hit plateaus. But I have noticed that everytime I hit a plateau, my body may not be losing pounds during that time, but I sure am losing inches. I spoke to my doctor about it and he said that a plateau is the way for the body to adjust itself to the weight it has lost. Therefore, your body loses inches during that time instead of weight. I hit plateau for about 2 to 3 weeks, then all of a sudden I start losing again for a couple of weeks. It now averages about 2 to 4 pounds a month. But that is quite OK, just as long as I am still losing, and feeling good. Good Luck to you, it sounds as though your weight loss is doing great. Linda F. [email protected]

Hello, Gina here...I started out at 326 I have lost 138 pounds since my surgery 9 months ago. I must stress to anyone who is SUFFERING through a plateau to THROW THE @#@$$ SCALE AWAY!!! I swear to you I was doing just fine eating normally and measuring my weight loss by "pants size". The only time I weighed my self was when I went to the doctors office. And I was always pleased as punch to see 10-30 pounds gone depending on how far between visits. For Christmas, not one but two family members thought I would LOVE a new scale to measure my sucess on a daily basis. Well, now I am freaking out because on a day to day basis...I loose NOTHING!!! I have found myself weighing before I eat, after I eat, after going to the rest room...running from one bathroom to the other comparing my weight...it has become an obsession...so I have put them both down in the basement!!! Get rid of the scale and presto...no more plateau!!! Best Wishes to you...love Gina Riso. (Has anyone seen where I put that scale?) :)

I just hit the one year mark on August 3rd. I lost a total of 130 pounds and haven't moved since May. I've lost inches though. I joined a health club and lost 8 inches the first month. July showed a 5 pound weight gain and only 1/2 inch. (I swear it was water weight, as it comes and goes). I can't seem to get below 260. On the other hand everyone I run into says I look like I'm losing weight, and my stamina has increased. I am starting to look more carefully at my diet and bought some diet software to track intake and exercise. Maybe I'm eating more carbs than I realize. Oh yeah, my chiropractor and massage therapist both say they can feel the difference in my body, so I try not to despair. Hang in there. Email me anytime. I need support too.

Don't despair! I am two years out and at 8 months out, I suddenly wasn't losing a pound. This went on for 3 months actually and then all of a sudden, I lost 40 pounds within 6 weeks! I kept losing after that until I was actually getting afraid that I was losing too much and that the loss wouldn't stop. It did eventually and I even gained back the 10 pounds that the doctor told me to. Just gaining it back took me 7 months to do. You are at a standstill but by no means finished. I agree, throw the scales away! They only make you obsessive and are not good for anything as our weight fluctuates from day to day. Mine still fluctuates a good 5 pounds here and there. Hang in there, the best is yet to come.
