Question:
I am on a soft diet. I have been able to eat blended soups and stews like potato,

crab, and Brunswick Stew. I can eat sugar-free ice cream and sugar-free pudding. My diet from my doctor said we could have fish, cooked vegetables and pasta. When I have tried eating food that is not really blended I get sick. I tried eating a bite off of a fresh peach, a tiny, tiny piece of meat that had broken off of the roast in my gravy, 4 grapes, 1/4 of a piece of fish stick, 3 bits of Macaroni and cheese and some broth off of dumplings from Cracker Barrell, baked salmon patty, even tuna salad has made me sick. I got a severe pain in my chest when I ate the above and the pain did not go away until I threw up each time. I did not eat very fast and I only ate a very small amount each time. My family even commented on how slowly I was eating. I got sick 3 times yesterday and the last time I was very sick. I ended up throwing up about 4 times before the pain ever went away. What is wrong or what am I doing wrong? This is a little discouraging and scarry.    — [Anonymous] (posted on July 21, 2000)

You should contact your surgeon's office ASAP. You have to address this. I do not think my stomach was completely healed until about month 5, then I could eat more diverse things. Just give it time and you will be more tolerable. In the meantime talk to your surgeon and see if this is "normal."

The same thing happened to me. Sounds like your pouch may be irritated. My doctor put me on prilosec and i was better in about a week to two weeks. It may be too soon for you to introduce "real food" yet. Good luck!
