Question:
Has anyone out there had WLS with an ileostomy?

I have my consultation on June 20th with Dr. Fisher. I have had an ileostomy for 12 years and want to know if it is a problem to do WLS with this.    — nvgirl (posted on June 11, 2001)

You probably should call the doctor's office and inform them of the ileostomy before you actually have the consult. If it does affect your ability to have wls, you will save the money from the consult.

My husband was just approved by BTC for surgery and he has a colostomy. We are still waiting for insurance approval. I spoke with his PCP today and he said it really shouldn't be a problem. Both physicicians said that one thing does not have anyting to do with the other. Lisa Polk

Linda, I looked at your profile. Sorry it was erased. But, Your PCP has approved it, and the insurance Co. has approved it, so I don't see where the problem is. I was wondering how much of your ileum is bypassed? And why did you need an ileostomy? I have all sorts of problems. I had the RNY and an Ileum Bypass. They bypassed the last 4 feet. Now they want to reattach my stomach, but leave my ileum bypassed. They think I could stay thin, and healthy with just the ileum bypass, and a regimen of lipid meds. I told them it wasn't an option. Good Luck --
