Question:
I need information about food not staying in the pouch...

Before my surgery, when I was doing my research in this site I've read about a person who was not losing weight, and could eat a lot more than usual because, even though her pouch was still small, the food would not stay in, emptying the pouch almost imediately. She also said the problem had been corrected but didn't say how. This happens to be my problem also. I've done an Upper GI series and the doctor said my pouch is emptying very quickly which explains why I'm always so hungry. I have an appointment with my surgeon on the 18th. and I'd like to go to him with some information handy. Can someone help? I'm almost 8 month post-op, and I'm stuck at 60lb. lost since I was 4/5 month post-op. Thanks to everybody who supports this site and best of luck to all. Ana    — Ana P. I really don't have an answer for you, but wanted to wish you luck at your appointment on the 18th. Please let us know what you find out as the information could really help alot of other people in the same situation...

I've read (on this site, actually) that part of the reason the pouch empties more quickly is the size of the opening between the pouch and the intestines... it's the reason - immediately post op - we have to chew, chew, chew...so things don't get "stuck" in that hole. So, one possible reason for a quickly emptying pouch is that..... Your doc will know more. Also, just as an aside, I am 4.75 months post op and find that my pouch "empties" much more quickly when I eat carbs (WHICH I LOVE!) than when I eat solid proteins (eggs, tuna)... so, I do have some control over that part... Best of luck to you. Open RNY 7/17/01.
