Question:
14 weeks post-op, Am I doing alright?

Ok, I am -54lbs and I having a little bit of emotional difficulty with food. I can never keep my head on straight when it comes to the amount to eat. Sometimes I cant eat at all because my head it telling me "yuck your not hungry" and then other times I feel like Ive eatin like a horse and cant control myself. Of course the amount of food I eat is not that excessive. EX: today: breakfast: 1 egg and a slice of bacon Lunch: 4 fish sticks Snack: cracker with peanut butter and slice of banana Dinner: chicken stir fry (1/2 cup) Snack: a handful of chex mix. I also drank about 70 ounces of unsweetened ice tea. So is this ok, or did I over-do it? My mind is really playing games with "the guilt factor". Any suggestions on how to stop beating myself up over this?    — hrussinko (posted on August 14, 2002)

I didn't see any protein (to speak of) or any water. The lack of water could make you feel excessively hungry.

Michelle, 70 oz. of unsweetened iced tea doesn't sound like any water? I thought iced tea counted towards our water intake. Also, I saw protein in the egg & bacon, maybe a little in the fish sticks (?), the peanut butter and the chicken in the stir fry. Heather, it sounds ok to me but perhaps you aren't eating enough...? Sometimes you can eat too little which will slow down your weight loss. Do you keep track of what you eat on a program such as FitDay.com or any of the other programs like that? FitDay has helped me big time! I know when I've eaten too few calories so I should eat a bit more, as well as when I've had more than I should, which curbs anything else I would eat on a day I've eaten more. I think if you kept track of what you ate (FitDay.com lists how many calories, grams of fat, grams of carbs & grams of protein every day), you would feel much better about your intake. No more guessing or beating yourself up about not knowing if it's enough or not enough. Also, is the iced tea decaffeinated? My doctor told me no caffeine. Have you tried Splenda to sweeten your tea? It's great. Take care.

I used fitday.com to calculate your food for the day.1177cal---66gms fat---99gms carb--49gms protien You did ok with the calories, however you ate too much fat and carbs and not enough protien. Try to get in 75 grms of protien and cut your fat down to 15 gms. You are on the right track Good Lux

I didn't have this surgery to *diet* for the rest of my life. Been there, done that! I do however, try consiously to watch my fat and carb intake, especially carbs. I'm not obsessive about it, but I just try not to overdo it. What you are eating sounds ok, just try and watch the fat and carbs. The majority of your food intake should be protein. As far as the tea goes, it ONLY counts as water if it is DECAF. Crystal light has a good decaf ice tea along with lemonade and other flavors.

I agree with a previous poster regarding the fish sticks, but I also noticed that you said you had bacon..I would stay away from that all together, bacon is pure fat..not what we need at this point..try to cut out the fat..I am not trying to be a pain in the butt, b/c I LOVE bacon, but for me if I start trying foods that I am not supposed to have it would be too easy for temptation to have another one or try more unhealthy foods...I just stay away from it..also these foods could help slow down your weightloss progress... -43lbs in 4 weeks (surgery July 15)
