Question:
Drainage on incision begins 11 days post op, should I worry?

I have drainage requiring changing dressings 4 or 5 times daily. Went to ER and the "squeezed" fluids from incision, put me on anti-biotics...still draining...pinkish fluid, no fever...will it stop soon?    — Jeane L. (posted on February 11, 2003)

i'm so sorry this is happening to you, how terrible. my mother had abdominal surgery in aug 2002. her belly wound is still open and draining, but it is much smaller now. the surgeon says sometimes, specially on a fat belly, that happens, fat does not heal together well. all you can do is pack it so it can drain and heal from the inside out! terrible!! hang in there!

I started to drain about the same time, and it lasted for probably a month, maybe a little longer. It was at the bottom of the staples. Went through A LOT

I started to drain about the same time, and it lasted for probably a month, maybe a little longer. It was at the bottom of the staples. Went through A LOT of guaze pads and shirts!! Everytime I seen the surgeon, he would squeeze it to get it to drain, OUCH!! Good luck!!!!!!!!!

Hi, my incision began to drain about 4 weeks post op, it drained for about 3 weeks--I know doesn't sound like fun! As long as you keep it dry and clean you should be alright! I was really scared the day it started, luckily I had an appointment with my surgeon the next day, I was afraid to move! But she said it would be ok--sometimes it just happens to some people. So don't worry!
