Question:
My period comes every 2 weeks now

I had surgery about 10 months ago, am down 130 pounds and for the last several months my periods come every 2 weeks. Before surgery I was very regular. Is it from the surgery or am I starting menopause? I'm 41.    — Cari F. (posted on October 29, 2003)

I am almost 26 years old, have PCOS and have never been regular. I had WLS in January of 2002 and did not have a period hardly ever befor that. Now I have a heavy period every other week which lasts about 6 days. This has been going on for the past year. I started at 274 and am now 159. It must be due to fluctuation in hormones with the weight loss. I hope it lightens up when I come to a stable weight. Good Luck!

Since we store estrogen in our fat cells, and you've lost so much weight, I would think that the extra periods would be due to the surgery and subsequent weight loss, but only your doctor would be able to tell for sure whether it's from surgery or from menopause.

My mom was having those same problems at menopause only to find out that she he massive fibroids that caused her to have a hysterectomy. You may wanna make an appointment to see your GYN to make sure that this is not the case. Good luck! Jaunine

I'm 4 months out and I had the same problem starting the day after surgery. I really got sick of it. I finally had my doctor put me on the Ortho-Evra patch. Worked like a charm and its like clockwork now. I just hope it continues!!!

I almost forgot - I am 42 and I know that I am peri-menopausal something which can go on for years. So, during my period week I wear another patch - estradiol 0.5 mg. I feel 100% better since starting the patches.
