Question:
Can somebody explain to me if this could happen only because I vomit too much?

2 weeks ago I vomit during 2 days and at the end of the second I had this coffee color vomit, some people told me that could be some vains that were broken and that's why I had this color. I don't have any problem right now but I could't see any Dr. yet. Can somebody tell me if this is something very bad or could be because of so much vomit without anything (even water) in the stomach?    — Vaniasos (posted on June 17, 2004)

Coffee ground emesis is indicative of bleeding. See your doctor. Shelley

I would go and see your Doctor. When ever you have coffee grounds emesis that is a sign of bleeding in the stomach (The blood turns to coffee ground color after it contacts digestive juices). Please go and see your doctor! Good Luck!

I must agree with the other 2 post on here. YOU NEED TO CALL YOUR DOCTOR!!! Even if you can't see the surgeon who did your procedure, you need to see your primary care doctor. If that fails.... Go to the Emergency Room to let them check you out. They are correct in posting that there is bleeding going into the stomach.

Vania...CALL YOUR PHYSICIAN IMMEDIATELY!!! Anytime you vomit and the color is dark, like coffee and/or has something in it that looks like it may be coffee grounds, you could be having GI bleeding from ulcerations. My mother (who has not had the surgery) is in fragile health with Parkinson's disease and other health problems. She fell and broke her pelvis 4 weeks ago. This past Monday, she started vomiting and it was dark in color. We took her straight to the ER and the following evening they did an emergency EGD (looking at the stomach with a light) and they found multiple (at least 16) ulcerations which were all oozing blood. Her hemaglobin was down to 9 (should be between 12-16 for women) and her platelets were all screwed up. They had to immediately change her meds and are hoping she'll stop bleeding soon. Again, I urge you to see your physician IMMEDIATELY or go to the ER if you can't get an appointment with your PCP. I've worked in x-ray for 30 years and I've seen this many, many times.
