Question:
How much water can you drink at one time?

I had my surgury on June 11,01 and I have no problem drinking a 8 oz glass of water in about 2 minutes, can anyone tell me if this is normal. I am so afraid of failing. I also cant get this eating for a 1/2 hour down, I try and prolong it but I usually end up full in less than 5 minutes and then feel REALLY full in 10-15 minutes because it finally catches up with me. Can some post op people please tell me of some of the ordeals they went through. I only eat a little bit but I am worried about how quick I can down the fluids.    — renee J. Dont worry about how fast you can drink water. Picture pouring water down a drain... even if it is open just a little the water still drains down pretty fast. Now pour yogurt down the same drain... drains slower... now cottage cheese... or tuna salad. Get what I mean. Thicker foods stay in the stomach and drain more slowly into the intestines... thin fluids go right through your stomach. You wont feel full from fluid foods either for the same reason. I was scared that I was going to be hungry because yogurt and cream soups didnt make me feel full. More solid foods will convince you of the small size of your stomach!

Hi, I had my surgery on 7-30-01 and I can drink a lot of water. I was told to sip but I can actually drink it normally, without any trouble. But when it comes to food, I can't eat over 2 oz each half an hour without feeling uncomfortable. It's weird, but I was told that water just goes right though you. Hope this helps!!

I have always heard that fluids will pass easily through the stomach unless there's something wrong. As for eating, it sounds like you're eating the right amount, but you may need to take more time between bites. This is so hard for me, so I can relate. If I don't put the fork down and distract myself, I will fill up really fast and then start to hurt too. It's harder when eating with someone else because I fell so slow compared to a normal eater. Try to take more time between bites and quit when you start to feel satisfied, no need to keep eating just to fill the time.
