Question:
I have BCBS of Illinois PPO. Does anyone know what you need

Had my surgery April l4, 2003. I have only lost about 70 lbs, as I started out a ligh weight at 262. I have not lost anymore and in fact have regained about 8 lbs since my l8 month checkup. I still feel very heavy as all the skin has gone done south. I do not have a big apron but it is big enough. I have back problems and would like to have my loose skin removed. Cannot afford to self-pay so I guess what I would like to know if anyone has this insurance and if I have a chance they will pay. My 2 year checkup with my surgeon is in April so I kinda would like to prepare myself.    — Maureen C. (posted on February 3, 2005)

My mom has that coverage. She has tried twice for plastic and has been turned down. She has lost 158 pounds. But check with your specific plan. All you can do is call and ask.

I have this insurance and I am now 2 weeks post tt w/muscle tightening and hernia repair. It was surprisingly easy for me to get this approved. I think it is because of the fact that I had an incisional and umbilical hernia. My bariatric surgeon did the surgery and they are the ones that submitted the paperwork to the ins company. I went in for a history and physical and they just asked me questions about rashes, back pain, urinary problems, balance problems, etc. The only problem I had with rashes was in my belly button area, I had some low back pain and some balance problems and also the inability to hold my bladder for very long, this was all contributed by the excess skin in my abdominal area. They took pictures and submitted it all to insurance. It took about 3 weeks for the approval to come back. I think it all depends on individual policies however on if its covered or not. I was very surprised but happy to get mine covered. They ended up taking 6.5 lbs off. Good luck, hope this helps Joy
