Question:
Has anyone tried the Master Cleanse Lemonaid Diet?

I'm seriously thinking of trying this. It is a minimum 10 day (max 40) fast of a special lemonaid mix that is primarily for detoxifying your body and a great side effect is you lose weight. I'm 3 years post-op and have gained 60 lbs back. My main reason for wanting to try this is to lose wait. The detox, to me, will be a great side-effect. I was wondering though, since much of our colons have been by-passed, I'm thinking we'll never be able to get all the toxins gone. Are then any medical specialists out there who can give some insite on detoxifying your system post-op?    — D W. (posted on August 1, 2005)

I looked at this prior to surgery. I would be careful post op. Do you dump? The lemonade is made with organic lemons and maple syrup - I would get sick, sick, sick on it. Are you unable to find a protein shake you like? I would think a protein shake liquid fast would be a lot less dangerous and could probably provide the same kind of benefit of kick-starting weight loss. Deb

I'm not familiar with it, but I hae one rule I always follow post op in regards to diets. If it sounds to good to be true or promises miracles it is a scam. (Been there - done that too darn many times) I am an RN and I also believe that most "detox" programs are also a scam. JMHO.As a post op you have special and very specific nutritional needs. Have you been following the program, high protein, fresh fruits and veggies, then grains (whole grains that is) in moderation, after you have had your RDA of protein and veggies? How is your exercise routine? What did you do differntly now than when you initially lost the weight? I thnk if you honestly look at what is happening and the "lemonade detox" you have the right answer. Don't let them cheat you and don't cheat yourself. You are worth the effort!

I wanted to add after viewing your profile, I had surgery about 3 weeks before you on 9/25, at BTC / Belvidere. Maybe you could come to the support group meeting next Monday in Belvidere. Helps keep me honest to go. They are always the 2nd monday of the month. Look forward to seeing you there.

I have to agree with Willow...do not waste your money. I do a detox every once in a while though. I use Yogi Detox tea...I can tell a difference and I only use it for 3 or 4 days. If you do this in conjuction with lots of water and a deep tissue massage...it will do as much if not more than this Lemonade thing. To jump start your weight loss again...go back to the very beginning of the WLS Post op diet...liquids for a week or so. Full liquids for a week will help you detox for one and help you get back to where you should be on your eating. I have heard this so many times on my boards...almost all successful post ops use this as a tool to get back on track. Good Luck!! Carmen

There is a remedy of very warm lemon water about 4 ozs with cayene pepper sprinkled in it. You are suppose to drink this 3 times a day. Eat less carbs and more high protein foods with 30 minutes of exercise 3 times a week. I have done this and basically it helped me lose 3 lbs the first week. Lemon helps me get rid of retained fluid if I drink it constantly. This has worked for me and I am not a dr and don't profess to be one, but this is what has worked for me when I need to detox my self. It basically keeps the colon cleansed and the body free of unwanted toxins.
