Question:
At about 5 to 6months out my weight loss just stopped.

I became very ill, throwing up, fever like symptoms. What I did keep in came out like diahreah. This went on for seven days. I went to my family Doc. as I could not get an answer from my surgen . I lost 17 lbs. in this week. My Doctor gave me some medication, and told me if this didn't stop, I would have to be hospitalized, as I was dehydrating. In a few more days this stopped. When I went into him he said "your stomach is very hard and ridgid". I figured it was just all of the gas from the vomiting, diahreah, and cramps. I felt I had the flu. However since this date I have not lost a pound. I have tried very hard to keep to my diet and exercise. I am now getting very discouraged and depressed, and am starting to give in. I have not gained any weight at this point but I have not lost any more. I did go back and see my Doctor at 9 months. And he said it was all my fault , I wasn't eating right. He asked me if I had ever been molested when I was a child. Like he was looking to blame it all on my eating habits. I think I am doing right , I really think somthing is wrong. How do I get him to listen. Help please. OPinions and ideas. I posted annonymous. I pray to God this comes up annonymous. I am having enough to deal with.    — C S. (posted on December 27, 2000)

After that illness you had, which seems to have been the start of this way-too-long plateau, I would really wonder if something went wrong inside you. Like maybe a staple line disruption. I hope you will find another surgeon with a good reputation, and go for a second opinion. It is wrong for a doctor to dismiss your complaints without at least investigating all the physical things that could be wrong first. Unfortunately, some surgeons just have a hard time admiting that things can go wrong completely beyond our control and theirs. It is easier for them to just blame the patinet. But, you don't need blame, you need answers, and quality care. Please get a second opinion.

I agree that it sounds like staple line disruption. I'd suggest you begin gathering up your records, op report, pre-op and all subsequent labs and start looking for another surgeon whose ego is not inhibiting his care of you.

I am also at a plateau but after losing 112 lbs I'm just grateful for that lose. It will come off eventually. Don't fret and keep doing what you are doing. I would definantly look for another doctor.
