Question:
Has anyone with post polio had a RNY and what rate did you progess?

I had polio in both legs and haven't been able to walk in a while. hopefully, i'll be able walk some but am discouraged that my physical condition will make this a longer process that for someone "normal". I need answers, if possible, from a peer. thanks    — Connie S. (posted on May 6, 2002)

I am not sure I can adequately answer your question but I do have some experience. I am post polio in that I, at a young age, had polio not once but twice. I am fully ambulatory but I am not able (or maybe willing) to exercise. I had an RNY two years ago and lost 60lbs of the 100 lbs I was overweight. I lead a very sedentary lifestyle. I think it is possible to lose some of your weight but probably not as much as another person would who was able to do some type of physical activity. I would not let it discourage me but I would be realistic as to the outcome. Please email me at [email protected] if you would like to discuss the post polio lifestyle further. I also have some questions. I have heard the post polio people should not exercise, is that true?
