Question:
Is this ok? Just ate 1 cup of cheerios with 1/2 cup milk.

I just ate 1 cup of cheerios with 1/2 skim milk and was full afterwards. I am 22yrs old and 2 months post-op from Lap-RNY. I have lost over 45 pounds to date. I have only thrown up once before from not chewing well and don't get full often b/c i usually measure foods and know when to stop. I'm pretty paranoid about my pouch size and just am always scared its stretching I guess. I can handle any food: yogurt, cheeses, dairy, chicken, beef, etc. My point is, 1st, is the cheerios ok? (once in a while, i know its high in carbs)and 2nd, is it okay that I am able to handle all of these foods so early? thankyou!    — Lezlie Y. (posted on July 29, 2002)

I can't help much, but I do know that my nutritionist has specifically mentioned Cheerios as a sanckable food. She doesn't like them mixed with milk, though, because that's considered drinking while eating - makes it all slide down too easy!

Funny you ask this~ I have discovered that cherios and milk work for me too. I told my dr at my 6 week check up and he said he would prefer me to eat eggs but if I could handle it ok then it was up to me. I do not eat this daily ( maybe once a week) but it makes me feel like Im in control and I can choose to have it (I had a horriable first month and was happy to find out I could eat cherios and milk, not much else stayed down) good luck~ we are all different and you need to find out what works for you!

remember that cereal like that will expand in your pouch! I was told by my surgeon that if we HAD TO HAVE the cereal let it get soggy first that way the expanding is already done and you won't eat too much then be in pain because itis expanding in your pouch. I know..why bother if it is soggy!!!yeeecchhh

I didn't have trouble with Cheerios and milk at 2 months either. As someone else said though, let the Cheerios dissolve in the milk. Then eat just the Cheerios. I know it's hard to throw away the milk, but either do that, give it to a pet, or wait 45 minutes to an an hour and drink it yourself.
