Question:
Having a band placed on the stomach after an open rou-n-x procedure?

I am consulting with a physician and during his initial informational seminar, he said that he placed a band on the stomach after the stapeling and sewing. He said that he did this to make sure that the stomach never held more than what was originally sectioned off and this band would make food stay longer in the stomach before routing to the intestines. Is this method one that he does on his own or are most surgeon's doing this? Has anyone outside of the state of Oklahoma heard of this method? All input would be greatly appreciated.    — classydame1 (posted on October 8, 2002)

I live in California. I had the same proceedure done. It seems like a little over kill, but after being MO for so long I am greatful for the extra protection. I had my surgery on 8/02/02 and I am down 43lbs. In the long run having the band could only help.

Patti, Hi. This is not really an answer to your question, but I had a feeling you were talking about Dr. Gorospe when you mentioned Oklahoma so I went into your profile. I know what you mean about rushing you through so fast, but I guess that is the way it has to be, but when he does your surgery and you need extra time at you appointments, he will give it to you. My husband and I both had RNY by Dr. Gorospe. I had mine Jan. 29, 2002 and have lost exactly 121 pounds and just had my consultation with my plastic surgeon today. I am down to 184. The ring is well worth it. I wish you lots of luck. God Bless, Jeanie
