Question:
Can you plateau at 6 weeks?

I did lap rny on Dec. 13th, I lost 33 pounds at five and a half weeks. Since then, I go up and down the scale never past the 33 pounds. I eat very little carbs and stick to high protein and lots of fluids. Maybe someone can give me menu ideas or tell me if it is normal to be stuck so early in the game.    — elaine27 (posted on January 31, 2003)

Don't worry at all- it is very common to plateau so early. I did at 3 weeks, and from what I've heard many others were at a standstill that early as well. So 6 weeks out is nothin! :) But our bodies just have to adjust, therefore plateaus can happen so early. You sound like you are doing well so far, and the main way to break one is to eat more protein, drink water and stay low carb. Are you exercising? I don't think I started exercising that early out, I was still tired and weak. But if you feel up to it, try taking a walk, and maybe that will break it. Otherwise, just wait it out, the weight will start coming off again. This is completely normal!

I'm SO glad I'm not the only one! I had surgery on Dec. 11, and I'm stuck at 31 pounds lost. I can't WAIT to see the scale dropping again! I started back to the gym, so I'm hoping that helps. :)

I am now 6 weeks post op (12/20/02) & I just went through the same thing. At my month check up I had lost 30 pounds & then I went two weeks not losing one pound. So what I did was...I increased my exercising. I now walk for 40/45 min a day & I now use fitday.com !!! That website is great. It helps you keep up with your food intake as well as your exercise. With me putting in some extra work...this week I lost about 10 pounds. Congrats on your weight loss ... keep up the good work!!!!
