Question:
I am 8 weeks post op and cant tolerate solid foods.

It started about 5 weeks post op. I had a stomach flu and wasnt able to eat anything for about 2 weeks. My surgeon did a cat scan and a scope and everything with the surgery looked great. I am still not able to eat anything solid. I had a small piece of fish and vomited from noon until 5pm. This happens with anything solid. I can only tolerate pureed foods and even that causes diarrhea. Any ideas on what is causing this or what I should do? I am very discouraged! Thanks. Kristin    — Kristin F. Diarrhea with pureed foods is totally normal. Your body won't produce a solid stool until you can eat solid food. Take it very easy on yourself. I threw up for the first 6 weeks after I could eat solid food, because my body was still adjusting to the different foods. Just relax and start with super soft foods. Bye for now, good luck!

Hey there - So you are able to keep water and pureed food down? Then, there's probably nothing wrong with you other than a sensitive stomach and pouch irritation. I'm also at 8 weeks on thursday and am very hit and miss on solid food. Friday I was sick from 2p-11p cause I had tried to eat some chili(which I've had twice before no problem). I go to broth and protein drinks the next day after a day like that and then gear back up to semi-solid and then solid and try something else. Since you had a stomach thing early on, it could have just caused your pouch to be very easily irritated. Good luck!

Kristin, I'm sorry your having such a rough time. It may just take a while for your tummy to accept solids. Have you tried very soft foods, and do they work? I'm thinking cottage cheese, soft scrambled eggs, refried beans?

Kristin, I am sorry to hear you are having a rough time of it. The one thing that my dietition told me at the beginning that I was so greatful for was this. When you get sick several times in a row or have at least two days of eating that don't go well. Go back to the beginning. Go on liquids and soups for one or two days, and slowly work back up to the solid food again. She said when we get sick our pouches just want to throw everything out after that and need time to recover and take it easy. I hope this helps you, it always worked for me. Take care. Hugs and smiles..
