Question:
am I normal?

I was 247 dec 13th and am down to 200 on march 11th. I'd like to hear from other slow losers. I am following the rules and feel not like a failure, but scared that I'lll never make it past say, 160, at best. I'd really like in a year to be 134. Slow losers, please write!    — elaine27 (posted on March 11, 2003)

I was 230 on 12-26-02 and am 180 on 3-11-03. I am a slow loser too. Some say it is because we did not have as much to lose. Others say our metabolisms have slowed down to starvation mode due to the extreme cut in calories. This winter has kept me from walking as I should. I truly believe as the weather warms and I can increase my activity that I will lose more. But I am still pleased! I never lost this much this fast before wls!

I am confused. That really does not sound slow to me. I think you are doing great. Your starting weight is not that high but you don't mention your BMI. So far you are over 16 pounds lost each month. I think that is great. I think you might want to check a few more profile out. 50 pounds in 3 months is great.I am wondering what your expectations were. Have you been losing steadily? If so then you are doing the right things.

Darlene, i may be out of the loop here, but i dont think you sound like you are losing slow AT ALL to me :-) Just an observation. What kind of surgery? I had the rny on 12-4-01 and turneed over my 14th month just now. I have lost to my surgeons goal of 147 and am still losing for my personal goal of 135. As i recall i lost at the same rate you are. And.........if it makes you feel any better i think everyone of us think we are the one that is going to fail the test. Its working for everyone except me. Very normal. Your doing GREAT!!! Celebrate and keep up the good work. God Bless, Darlene (oh yeah, great name :-)

I don't think it is slow at all either. i was basically like that- I had lost 30lbs. my first month, then 10 each additional. I started out at 250, and 9 months later I am 140, going for 130#. You are doing great, you're considered a "lightweight" so it will be a little slower for us. You could definately get to 134 in less than a year! Don't worry- you will get there! goodluck to you :)

ok, Darlene, you need to change your thinking, 47lbs in 3 months in not slow!!!Be Patient, this surgery is a wonderful tool, but you cant expect to wake up Thin, It will happen, stay positve and rejoice that those 47lbs are gone forever. I started at 270 and had my surgery on Sept 30, 02 and today I am down to 182. I gave myself a year to be reach my goal of 140. So don't worry, It will happen. Keep up the good work, it will pay off. Take care, Rose

Darlene, i just read your profile....I had surgery with Dr Leitman @ Lenox Hill, maybe we have met in Support Group. You have lost 47lbs in 6 mos. THATS AWEOMSE! When was the last time you accomplished that? My questions to you would be: how much protein are you eating (60-80g)? Are you drinking 64oz of water? Are you exercising? Are you eating mostly protein or do you eat a lot of carbs? Do you eat sweets? Are you eating 80+ calories a day? Maybe youa ren't eating enough? Are you seeing your Nutritionist (Nicole Segal, I am guessing)? Suggestion, come to support group next week (thursday @ LH) and bring it up in group. I thought this would never work for me and I thought I was a slow loser, I am down 99.5lbs now in jusy short of 7 mos and everyday I think it will stop...What does Roslin say about all this? Good Luck...Heather (Open RNY 8/15 - 305/205/150)

Well I didn't consider myself a 'slow loser' till I read this question...I started at 243 on Dec. 11 and am today at 180...I think that's pretty good (except for this week is my first plateau and it's going to kill me). I think we'll be fine in the end, we're only 3 months out! I'm just starting to come to terms with the fact that I don't have to wear the 3x and 22-24 stuff. :)

Darlene, I have to agree with the others that you are doing WONDERFUL! Just think, you've lost 47 lbs...forever! I think that I will be a slow loser too, but there are benefits to that (skin issues being one of them). Please DON'T get discouraged...please please please. You are GREAT!!!!
