Question:
Wondering if my weightloss is normal at 4 1/2 months post op?

I know that everyone is diffrent and so i sthe weight loss. I have lost 70pounds since surgery. I exercise everyday (the 2 or 3 mile walk away the pounds, and do other floor exercises as well sit ups etc). Sometime I think I am right on track and then see others profiles and wonder if I am not in the norm. I also notice platues big time around my period. Also I was reading about birth control on the site..but could not conclude the decision..does our bodies absorb the pill less effectively after the surgery? if so which pills work teh best? I have no idea wasn't anything I thought about pre surgery (duh)any help would be greatly appreciated. cheers, Missey    — Melissa Y. (posted on March 14, 2003)

Well you did not say what your starting weight was, but it sounds to me like you are doing just fine. I am 3 months out and down 52 pounds. Keep up the good work!

As for weightloss- there is no normal. Go with your feelings... sounds to me you are doing just fine. As for the B/C, that is absolutely correct. Please use a condom with your B/C pills during the rapid weight loss period- or you CAN find yourself pregnant. There are many women who are *so* shocked to *find themselves pregnant* when it is preached to them from day ONE that their B/C may not work as well. B/C should be just as important as your vitamins, or exercise or anything else we pay more attention to (or sometimes alter) to fit us after WLS.

Missey, first, congrats on the exercise! GOOD FOR YOU! Question: how much did you weigh when you had surgery? I, too, am 4 1/2 mos post op (RnY 11/12) and I'm down 65 pounds, but over 56 inches! I've gone from a 26/28 to a 16/18, which I feel is a better reflection of my journey than those darn numbers. I, like you, stress over the pounds. But some of my dear, dear friends (and my Doc, I might add) said focus on the clothes, the energy, the other stuff and you'll see how well you are doing. For me, the difference in not only my clothing but my eyes, skin and energy levels are outstanding. If I stopped here, I'd be a new woman! Now, that isn't to say that a size 10 (or less) wouldn't be wonderful! Like you, I am taking the pill. I started after surgery, so I hope it doesn't slow me down, but if it does, that's fine. I don't want to lose too fast, because I'm young and I'd like a chance for my skin to catch up as much as it can...I know a TT is in the works for me someday. I hold steady until a few days after my "friend" and then lose about 3-5 pounds seemingly over night. That's normal my surgeon and OB/GYN says. toodles, Jen, rny 11/12

Congrats on the great loss! I have been told by both my gynecologist and my surgeon that I am absorbing my birth control pills. I am on desogen. Theonly downside is, even though I am on the pill, I am getting my period every 2 weeks or so! My doctors tell me this is a side effect of rapid weight loss.

I am 4 1/2 months out too I started at 275 and now i am 197 about 77 pound loss so it sounds like you about that same as the rest of us. I know we are not suppose to compare but that is hard not to do. I know I do the same thing too. your better at this than I am though because I am afraid I am not excersizing like I should. you doing great. keep it up.

Missy, I was 305 day of surgery, and at 4 mos was down 71lbs. I am 7 mos out today and down 100, with 55lbs to go...I stopped taking the pill right before surgery and haven't gone back on it yet, to many hormones that can effect my weight loss. Until I get closer to goal, I am using a condom, I don't want to follow w/ my weight loss plus add any hormones to my body. Plus, until I get under 199, the patch isn't an option and I can get a cap or IUD b/c of the fluctuating wieght loss. Good Luck to you. Heather (Open RNY 8/15 - 305/205/150)
