I have IBS and it is much better since the surgery. I have more of a problem with constipation since surgery as opposed to the runs.....I had the runs my first week out, but as soon as I started to introduce food into my diet it stopped up. Maybe you are drinking too much water at a time ? The only time I get the runs now is when I eat food too high in fat. Maybe you are eating too much fat ? I hope I helped. Kelly Dame

I am 3 1/2 years out and I get episodes of IBS usually the morning after I have eaten out. When I eat my normal diet at home, usually does not bother me. Since you are anonymous there is no profile to read to ask how far out are you? And which type of surgery did you have? Those who had the DS-very bypassed- are often bothered more with diahrea than those who have the RNY.If you are not far out from surgery, it could just be your body adjusting to the new mechanics. Water shouldnt cause diahrea. Dairy products often do and some foods. Talk to your surgeon to see how they can help.

I have inflamatory bowel disease (IBD) and have severe chronic diarrhea. I have found that metamucil (or psyllium) works wonders. It is a great bowel regulator. It absorbs water so it will help firm up stool (reducing diarrhea). Also, because it absorbs water, it helps keep stool moist and reduces constipation. If your diarrhea is worse than before, I would also suggest getting checked out by a doctor. If you have been on antibiotics, you could have c. diff. or some other bacterial imbalance. If you have been camping/swimming/eating out, you could have a parasite or similar infection. Anytime you have a big change in bowel habits, you should check w/ your doctor. You may have something going on in addtion to the IBS. There is also OTC and prescription medication for diarrhea. A word of caution tho, you ought to check with your doctor first, because if you have some kind of infection, taking an antidiarrheal can make things worse. Best wishes. Sid
