At 3 weeks post op I experienced my first plateau that lasted for 3 weeks. This is VERY common. We lose a substantial amount of weight in the first few weeks after surgery then our bodies put on the brakes and say "Wait a minute! What's going on here? I think I'm starving!" You are very normal. Sometimes increasing your protein intake and even increasing your calories a bit can break a plateau. Don't worry - you're doing fine! Best wishes to you!

I am 3mo post op and I had hit a plateau for about 2 or 3 weeks and I weighed 232, you have to stay off that scale, it will drive you crazy. When I first weighed I was at 228 from 245. Then I went back 2 weeks later and weighed again. I said what in the world is going on. I never got back on the scale again until I went to the Dr.. I weighed in at 215. So stay away from the scale. I am going to get a scale this week, but I will only weigh once a month, atleast I'll try. I hope this helps.

You are doing FINE! It is normal for your body to go through an adjustment period- think of what you've put it through. One question... Are you getting enough calories in? If you don't get 800-900 cals in, your body will think it's in the desert somewhere starving, and it stops burning calories for self-protection. I would just advise that you make sure you have enough calories. Also the regular water, exercise, etc. I usually lose in spurts, about when I get frustrated at no loss, I will lose 3 or 4 pounds. You can do it, don't get discouraged! Good Luck!!

I was on a plateau for 3 weeks and all of a sudden dropped 10 pounds in the last 7 days. It happens. It totally sucks but it happens and we have to be patient. I just ate whatever I wanted and didn't hop on the scale daily like I usually do so I could keep my sanity until the weight decided that it wanted to come off. Do something to jolt your body into action again. If you don't exercise, then start. If you do, slow it down for a while or speed it up. I was working out five days a week until two weeks ago when I came down with a NASTY cold. As soon as I stopped working out, I lost weight, GO FIGURE!

My doc "fussed" at me when he knew I was eating little. He said "in order to lose weight, you MUST eat to keep your metabolish going." He said not to worry about calories, but to eat every 3-4 hours. Not sweets or fats, of course, but lots of protein, water, veggies and fruits. Good luck!

Lee C, I missed about 5 days of exercise and broke a plateau, too. I wonder why it happens like that? It's weird, I'm sure someone will have an answer for that. (TEHE) Good excuse to have a few days off from exercise. LOL (too bad I work at a gym now, LOL) Donna in AL
