Question:
Did you have to wait long to reschedule your postponed surgery?

I'm most likely going to have to reschedule my Wed, Feb 19 RNY. My husband broke his foot and is facing surgery. Also, my 18 yr-old son will probably go into the hospital Mon for his usual 10 day hospital stay due to cystic fibrosis. He stays by himself since he is basically grown, but his sinuses are badly infected, so he may need sinus surgery (his 9th) along with treatment for his CF. If I have my surgery next week, we'll all be out of "commission" at the same time and won't be able to help one another. Those of you that have postponed your WLS...did it take a long time before you were able to get a new date? Thanks for your input. Donna Hovater    — Donna H. (posted on February 16, 2003)

it all depends on your surgeon's operating schedule and the hospital's OR schedule.

Donna- I'm sorry to hear about the difficult time you are having at home. I had to reschedule my surgery due to family circumstances(and nerves). When I decided that it was the right time for surgery I called my surgeon and I got the next available date which was 8 weeks later. It wasn't any longer than it was the original time I scheduled my surgery; however, since you are cancelling due to circumstances that are out of your control; perhaps they would be more willing to "squeeze you in". I would suggest calling your surgeon and explaining to them your situation and ask them when the next surgery date would be "if" you had to postpone it, see what they say, and make your decision whether to postpone the surgery from the info you receive from your surgeon's office. Wishes for a speedy recovery to you and your entire family.
