Question:
12-1800 calories at 10.5 months post???

Ok....here is the deal. I have been tracking my calories on fitday.com and I am getting anywhere from 1200-1800 in a day. Recently it has been closer to 1800. Aproaching a year out I am wondering if this is acceptable or if it is going to stop my weight loss in it's tracks. I have gone from 334 to 160 (a personal goal) but wouldn;t mind loosing 15 more. I workout ALOT. For example I ran 2 miles yesterday and taught a Martial Arts class then worked out in my other KungFu classes for 2 hours. Today I will be sparring (fighting) for an hour and lifting weights. During the week I average 3 hours of working out a day. When I get home at night I am STARVING and I really don't think it is head hunger. Last night when I got home, before bed I had a small salad with cheese and nuts and haf a banana. My calories are mainly all high protein foods. My theory is I need the extra calories to sustain myself during this high level of activity. Weight loss has slowed down to just a couple Lbs in the last month and hardly anything the few weeks before that. But I am also obviously putting on muscle. I guees my point is.....should I be counting calories? Am I going to go back to old ways of eating by eating this many calories? Or am I freaking over nothing? Can you guys help me out here??    — Kicker (posted on August 1, 2003)

Since you are working out so much, I would talk with a nutionist (sp?) They can advise you on how much to eat--and what you need. I would think you need extra protein, not more calories. A friend who is a body builder, eats 2000 calories a day with 100 grams of protein....with this she is about to maintain her weight at a level she wants.

heya hun.. i think that it probably would be a good idea to talk with a nutricianist who actually understands your needs as far as the surgery you have had, and the amount you work out..and what you still are tryin to accomplish.. but.. just my opionion..i would try addin some calories for a bit..and see what that does for your energy level and your wt loss..good luck on whatever you choose.. huggles n bb..

you could talk to a nutrion person.. or dietician.. but you might also talk to a very WELL qualified personal trainer... once who has some nutrition education as well as the physical stuff.. they're availalbe at many gyms... it does sound like you're doing a whole lot of activity.. if you could figure out what you need to maintain your very active self... that would be good -- I'm guessing though that you need that much. I'm fairly active, though not quite as much as you.. I work out 6 days a week, couple of days just cardio, but most of them are cardio and weight training.. so I think I burn a lot. I'm eating between 1200 and 1500.. and still losing about 2 lbs a week... about that much.. *grin* sometimes its a little slower. Good luck!
