Question:
Has anyone had Hyalgan injection in knee for arthritis?

I am 11 months post-op open RNY and had arthroscopic surgery last week. The doctor found severe arthritis and wants to try Hyalgan injections once a week for five weeks. I was wondering if anyone out there has had these injections and if they helped. Any input is appreciated.    — georgiacarol (posted on August 5, 2001)

I am still pre-op, but just had arthroscopic surgery on knee 10 days ago. Prior to that I had three injections over a period of two years. Now, I'm not sure if any of the injections were what you mentioned, but at least one of mine was a steroid, and one was "chicken cartilage". Unfortunately, they were ineffective. What you want to be careful about is that these shots can lead to bone destruction, according to my physician. "You should have no more than three, four at the most". Hope this helps.
