Question:
Has anyone tried Rogaine to speed up hair regrowth?

My dermatologist recommended that I try Rogaine to speed up the "wake up" process to get my hair to come back faster. He said that since my hair loss is due to major surgery, I'll only need to use it for about four months and I wont be dependent on it. I'm worried about some of the possible side effects especially the one about unwanted weight gain. Has anyone used Rogaine? Did it cause a slow down in your weight loss? What about facial hair? Does it really make the hair come back faster and is it worth using? Thanks! By the way, I'm down 104 pounds since August 15th.    — Traci H. (posted on January 24, 2002)

My dermatologist also recommended rogaine, but I did not use it for 2 reasons. First, I did some research and found that rogaine works only while you take it. The hair that you do get to regrow, will fall out again when you stop taking the rogaine. I didn't want to go through another round of hair loss. Second, I read the package insert and it said to not take it if your scalp was irritated or red. With my hairloss, my scalp HURT!! It was incredibly painful and everytime my hair moved, it feeled like my scalp was being stabbed with thousands of needles. It was awful and lasted for about 3 months. I knew that this hairloss was only temporary and my hair would eventually grow back, but it was really hard finding the patience to wait it out. Shelley
