Question:
Dry-heaving after meals!? 7 weeks

I am 7 weeks post-op and lately I am finding that after meals I am very uncomfortable and burpy. I've tried to scale back on food intake, eat slower, chew better and eat smaller bites, but notice that after I digest the food I am so burpy, the only way to feel better is "dry-heaving". I'm not throwing anything up, and I just hate this, but I feel so much better - less gassy, burpy and misearble. Help!    — Amy E. (posted on December 8, 2003)

I am sorry you are having such a tough time, I would do all that you said, eat slow, chew well & don't eat too much. Try some chewable gas-x, alot of people swear by it. If it continues of course ask your doc. GOOD LUCK!

I am so sorry you are going through that.. It's rough.. I am a little over a year out & still have that happen from time to time.. From what I understand it's different for everyone.. Some have dry heaves & some really throw up & some never do.. The only thing I can tell you is that it should ease up some as time goes on... Good luck & hang in there..

I understand how you feel. It gets easier as time goes on. At about 6 or 7 weeks post op, I felt the same way. I cried every time I ate thinking that if this was going to happen everytime I ate, I didn't want it! But, my doctor told me that the gas/burpy feeling would go away. I don't know if my body adjusted (without my consciously knowing it) but I found as time went on, after about 4 mos, that things seemed to get back closer to normal. Like the other poster's response, I still have times that I will feel that way. It's usually as a result of eating something that still won't agree with me even after a year out. Hang in there, and you'll get through the next few weeks of adjustments. This time next year, you'll look back in wonder at what you've accomplished. Keep strong and best of luck.
