Question:
Help, I need ideas on some healthy snacks to take on trip.

I will be going out of town for 4 days and staying in a hotel. I will be with a bunch of people with whom I really don't know well in a hotel room that doesn't have a fridge or microwave. This is a conference for school so I won't have my own vehicle. Does anyone have any good ideas of some healthy snacks that I can take with me that don't need to be put in a fridge or microwave. I know that most of these people will want to eat out twice a day but as most of us know I will need to eat more often than twice a day. I usually eat about 4 - 6 small meals/snacks per day. Thanks for any help. Oh, by the way these people don't know I've had the surgery and since I don't know them that well I don't want to have to explain it. Thanks — Kelly S. There are alot of things that you can take or buy there that do not need a fridge or microwave. Nuts, mixed nuts, sunflower seeds, beef jerky, peanut butter and crackers, canned potted meat, viennia sausage, the tuna that comes in a package, has all the stuff to make tuna salad. You will have a ice bucket and ice from the machine, so take advantage of that. Get a small jar of mayanase and keep it on ice, canned chicken on crackers, trail mix is great.
Cindy Smith
Open RNY 8-6-03
-104 lbs

Don't forget string cheese if you're taking a cooler or will have a fridge.

You can buy peanut butter in a tube now (Skippy). I take it with me with some plastic throw away knives and I spread it on a rice cake or an apple. Or you can just squeeze it into a spoon and eat it off of the spoon. Take some protein bars with you. If you cannot eat the whole one then cut it in half with one of your plastic knives. Take some nuts with or sunflower seeds in a jar. How about some beef jerky? I take protein powder with me and a Tupperware shaker. You can always get cold water or skim milk to put in with the powder and shake shake away. I did that when I travelled to Germany last fall so I made sure that I got all of my protein in in a day.

I am like you in that I eat about 5 small meals a day, I just can't eat enough at one time to get all my protien in in just 3 meals. I like those Atkins Crunchers chips, they are made with soy, and have 12-13 grams of protien for a 1 oz bag. Since more places are carrying low carb foods, I have been able to find these at my local grocery store, CVS and at Walmart.

I keep baggies of nuts in my car, and at work. Beef jerky is also a great snack on the go. Even a banana or apple. Like the other poster said...take advantage of the ice bucket w/cheese. I dont tolerate crackers too well, but I was able to snack on the ritz mini crackers w/ cheese or p-nut butter. Keep plenty of water on hand! No one will ever know...so many people who havent had WLS snack like this these days. Good luck!!

In addition to what the others have said, protein bars! I always have one in my purse at all times...
