Question:
Has your attitude changed since your WLS?

Have you noticed a change in your own attitude? How has it changed for the better?    — yourdivaness (posted on February 28, 2003)

Hi thought I would op on in and post, yes I think my attitude has changed, I no longer take 2nd best of anything, I just don't settle at all. I also speak my mind when something bothers me I let them know, wether it's at work or at home, before WLS I belive I was run-over big time, I'd settle just for anything, wouldn't complain, and never spoke my mind, how-ever I am now just the opposite. It's funny I think the world changes you as well, when you have WLS, people look at you under a different light. There are allot of fat prejudice people out there.. I see it all the time, Even though I may have changed, I still know here my roots are and where I started from. Hugs to everyone Post op 9 months down 125 pounds.

Very good question, I beleive I am still the same person just in a thinner body. However, I am not so defensive or apt to show anger or toughness, let me try to explain this lol..when i was heavier I was more apt to jump up and speak my mind as if I had to prove to people that I maybe fat but I have something to say and your gonna hear it! Where is now, I still speak my mind but I am more calm about it, more selective, I dont have to prove anything because I can be heard and not judged for my weight, does that make any sense at all? I am much more confident and happier, I glow on the inside and outside!

Yes, a significant attitude change! I am happy now. Before WLS, I was a sad, depressed person who did not like myself and hid from the world as much as possible, turning to my junk food for comfort and to make up for the lack of self-worth I felt. Today, I am not only happy, I am full of self-esteem and confidence, and darn it, I look good! Happy, happy, happy....

I'm so much more confident and happy. I actually have a self-esteem now- and it's a good one! Things are going great, and being able to do more things with my friends and family is the best feeling in the world. I will never forget where I came from though and what it took to get me here! :)

I had my surgery at the end of December, and although I don't notice a change in my attitude, people tell me that I glow, and I have been promoted in my job because of my apparent newfound confidence.

I'm only 2-1/2 weeks out and don't feel any different, yet people tell me that I have a new look on my face. The only thing I can think of for this is that I now have hope for better health and a better life.

I'm about 10 months post op and near goal weight. I've worked for AT&T for 13 years and shortly after my WLS I was promoted to management then 4 months after that the center I worked in was closed and I now find myself being laid-off. My last day of work will be on 03/14/03. Good news is I'm going to pursue a career in nursing, which is something I've always wanted to do. I start nursing school on 03/17/03. There's no way I'd be able to handle these rather drastic life changes if it hadn't been for the WLS. Yes, my attitude has changed greatly for the better. When I was morbidly obese it was all I could do just to make through my day. I hurt all over and took frequent naps, but now I have tons of energy and feel I can conquer anything. Thank God for WLS. (open, non-transected, distal RNY on 05/07/02, pre-op 263lbs 5'6'', current weight 155lbs)

Oh yes...ENERGY, self confidence, a bounce in my step and a GLOW on my face. It was always there, just 'hidden'. This is the fun stage where EVERYONE notices and makes you feel so special (the center of everyone's attention). I just plain feel good about myself. Oh and did I mention...NO hair? hahahahaha Just kidding. Well, sort of. ;)

OMG..I am still pre-op (4/16/03 date), but KNOW there will be a dramatic change. How can there not be? Now I spend free time sleeping, on short outings, doing things that don't take much time or exercise. Afterward, I plan on getting back to my old self...LONG walks, lots of outdoor activities, being around others and not worrying about being the biggest one around. I remember losing weight in the past and how just a few pounds makes you feel better...now imagine losing 100+. OMG...I can't wait.

There's definately an attitude change. You become a LOT more bold and don't really care what people think of your comments (right or wrong). At least that's what I've noticed!!
