Question:
I'm three weeks out and haven't lost a pound in the last week.

In fact I'm up and down one pound. I eat only about 700 calories (I'm just getting to that point) I don't eat a lot of carbs, in fact food doesn't sit with me very well. I was wondering how long does that first plateau usually last (I lost 23# since surgery). Terri    — tinky471 (posted on January 5, 2004)

It sounds like you might not be eating enough, going to my 6 week check up ad only losing 23 lbs, he was really upset at me, told me to GO HOME! Eat every 2hours even get a watch that beeps if I have to. Went home and did it and within 4 wees had lost another 38 lbs, now 8 months later, I have lost 161 lbs and I eat every 2-2 1/2 hrs. My lunch box is huge bt i don't care. My eating schedule is like this, 6:00 a.m. oateal & juice 8:15 a.m. yogurt 10:30a.m. Granola bar 1:00-12:30 Lunch sandwich, oup or tuna fix some way, or Wendys chili(Ieat a lot of this, high in protein) 2:30-2:45 Beef Jerky 2oz individual serving from Costco 4:00 something little nuts, raisins etc. 6:00 - 7:00 Dinner what ever left overs or something new, tuna, soup, some small meal. I buy a lot of those small kids microwave dinners that are by the tuna section in stor you know Lasagna, spaghetti, mac & cheese, chili, beef stew perfect size to eat. Then at 7 p.m. I quit eating until morning. Might work for you has for me, I am down to 146 from 312 one year ago Dec 4th but my first 2 months were slow then BAM!! weight started coming off. GOOD LUCK keep in touch with me at [email protected]

I know it's hard, but try not to be a slave to the scale. We all lose at different rates. Some people lose consistently each week, while others (like me) lose in steps. For example, I'll drop 10 pounds in a week and then stay that weight for several weeks before losing another 10 pounds. Remember that this is not a race, but a destination. There's a lot of talk about plateaus on this board and most people don't truly understand what a plateau is. Officially you are not on a plateau unless you stay the same weight for months. Don't forget, your body is adjusting to losing weight. It simply cannot lose a great amount of weight each week. Just do what you're supposed to do and the weight will come off.
