Question:
How do I know if I am hungry or full?

I had Open RNY on 8/25/04 with a weight loss of 16.5 pds. I am wondering why I don't feel full when eating. I have not gotten sick from anything thus far and am a bit surprised and wonder if something is wrong. I am already eating at stage 3. Keeping within a bit over 1/2 Cup. This morning I had a half slice of toast and a scrambled egg and it went down fine no problem. I guess I was expecting to get sick, is it normal not to???    — debbiecoyne (posted on September 6, 2004)

It depends on what you're eating, how fast you're eating it and how you are reacting to it.You should not be getting sick just because you have eaten--- that's not what the surgery is supposed to do. I don't know what you mean by "stage 3" eating. I was on pureed foods for the first 4 weeks post-op. If what you are eating has the consistency of a thick liquid, you may not feel full because that tends to go through your system quickly. But you are very early post-op, so your food should be very, very soft in terms of texture. Have you spoken to your doctor about this?

I am still pre op but through everything that i have read Your pouch is still numb until I think it is 6 weeks post then You should start feeling the fullness Ask Your surgeon but I am sure this is all it is. Hugz Shell

I was on liquids for 2 weeks post op and then 2 table spoons of pureed food 2 times a day for 4 weeks. However each doc is different. I was told to chew each bite 20 to 30 times and eat SLOW!!. Hope this helps.

I am 8 weeks post op and had the same concern you have when I started on normal food. This lasted only a week or two for me. I now feel full when I am. One point though is to make sure you are not eating too fast b/c it takes your stomach a while to catch up with your mouth.
